Electricity from bacteria

Researchers from Israel’s Technion have developed an energy-producing system from photosynthetic bacteria, also known as cyanobacteria. The bacteria use photosynthesis to generate energy from sunlight. This energy can be harvested as hydrogen and then used to generate electricity. https://www.timesofisrael.com/electricity-from-germs-could-be-the-next-big-thing-say-researchers/

Splitting water – more news

I reported previously (Apr 10) on the breakthrough by Israeli Technion scientists regarding the efficient splitting of water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. Now Weizmann Institute scientists have made electrons spin in a way to avoid producing hydrogen peroxide, which … Continue reading

Using spinach to generate fuel

I reported previously that Technion-Israel scientists used sunlight to split water into Hydrogen and Oxygen.  They have progressed further and developed this into a bio-photo-electro-chemical (BPEC) cell, using a simple membrane extract from spinach leaves. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/09/160922085743.htm http://www.nature.com/articles/ncomms12552

A radical new catalyst

Technion scientists have developed the alpha hydrogen nitroxyl radical – a new stable class of chemical that encourages other chemicals to react together without being affected itself. This has major implications for chemical and medical industries including plastics, agriculture, biochemistry … Continue reading
