$9.6 million BIRD Foundation grant

The Israel-U.S. Binational Industrial Research and Development (BIRD) Foundation has granted $9.6 million to 10 joint projects. The Israeli companies are Celleste Bio, CENS Materials,, Opmed.AI, Hypervision, Imagindairy, IAI, LahakX, Tissue Dynamics and Sheba hospital.

Cocoa in Israel

Celleste Bio (see here previously) is another Israeli startup using cell cultivation of plants – this time cocoa. It says one of its 800L bioreactors can produce as much as one hectare of cocoa trees.

Sustainable chocolate

Israel’s Celleste-Bio is developing high-value cocoa ingredients using cell culture methods, eliminating the dependence on the cultivation of cocoa trees. Lab-produced cocoa avoids deforestation, child labor and high carbon emissions.
