A sold-out inaugural Wharton Israel Conference in Pennsylvania focused on one small country - Israel - as it pushed for a global effort to make the world a better place. The event featured international speakers who shared how Israelis work to improve the world.  

Prayers for rain are answered – in buckets!

Jews in Israel said the prayer for rain on Monday lunchtime during the festival of Shemini Atzeret. The next day, the country receives the heaviest October rainfall in six years. Flash floods, roads closed and flights grounded. But it brought a welcome smile to most Israelis.

The first Sukkathon

For the first time, entrepreneurs gathered in a Jerusalem sukkah to develop apps related to temporary content. The developers were hosted by video messaging specialists Glide. In the spirit of the sukkah – a temporary habitation - so Internet data needs to be cleared away when no longer relevant.

Jerusalem March is 60 years old

The Jerusalem March marks the 60th year the event has been held – making it the biggest and oldest parade in Israel. Marchers came from 35 countries and at least 60,000 people either took part or came to watch. They included dozens who helped liberate East Jerusalem in 1967.

7000 sq feet sukkah at Tel Aviv port

Beit Tefilah Israeli and the Tel Aviv Port have opened a giant sukkah (booth), covering more than 7000 square feet on the iconic Tel Aviv Port boardwalk. The sukkah will be open to the public from 9am-10pm daily throughout Sukkot (Tabernacles), with free activities for the entire family.

Seal unearthed from time of King David

A 10-year-old Russian volunteer at Jerusalem’s Temple Mount Sifting Project discovered a 3000-year-old stone seal. The dating of the seal corresponds to the historical period of the conquest of Jerusalem by King David and the construction of the Temple by his son, King Solomon.
