Antiquities Authority (IAA) excavations at Giv’at Yonah in Ashdod have exposed the foundation of a large fortress from the First Temple period. Giv’at Yonah is identified with the burial place of the prophet Jonah who lived in the late 8th and early 7th centuries BCE.
