Israel plans to phase out the ubiquitous “Dude Shemesh” – rooftop solar water heaters, in favor of photovoltaic (PV) solar cells that power heat pumps, which are 2.5 to 4 times more energy-efficient than standard electric boilers. The NIS 4,500 cost pays back in about 4 years.
