Sweet protein gives hope to diabetics

Israeli startup Amai Proteins has synthesized the protein thaumatin, found naturally in the Nigerian katemfe plant, which acts as a sweetener but does not raise blood sugar or insulin levels. Amai have conducted initial test tastings and have raised NIS 3 million of funding.

    As a Type 2 diabetic I look at the world of food these days with constant suspicion, I love good foods but the world does not cater to me alone..This kind of product gives me a way to keep my parameters in control and let the Doc know I am doing the best I can…Whenever I see the words sugar free, red flags go up, most of those products are incompatible to me…I would appreciate hearing more as to when these modified sugars come to the market in the US and the uses you have created….LH
