The world’s largest Israeli flag
Upper Nazareth Mayor Shimon Gapso has unfurled the world's largest Israeli flag, proudly flying it over his hometown. The flag is 16 meters wide by 8 meters high (48 ft. by 24 ft.) and is visible for kilometres around. Gapso said. “It's about time that Israelis are proud to be Israeli”.

1st Temple period fortress found in Ashdod
Antiquities Authority (IAA) excavations at Giv'at Yonah in Ashdod have exposed the foundation of a large fortress from the First Temple period. Giv'at Yonah is identified with the burial place of the prophet Jonah who lived in the late 8th and early 7th centuries BCE.

Israel’s rainiest January ever
The most rain since the Israel Meteorological Service began keeping records. Most stations in northern Israel recorded at least 26 rainy days in January and some 29 rainy days. The previous record was set in January 1947, with 25 days of rain in the north. The Kinneret rose 55cm in January.

A report from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development indicates that Israel ranks second in percentage of population with post-secondary degrees. With 45% of Israelis completing university degrees, Israel ranks ahead of countries such as Japan (44%), the US (41%), the UK (37%), only lagging behind Canada (50%).
