98-year-old survivor rescued
98-year-old Shoah survivor Yelena was rescued from Ukraine and brought to Israel. She said, “I am excited to immigrate to Israel, the nation state of the Jewish people, where I can experience Shabbats and Jewish holidays and be happy in the years I still have left to live here in this world."
Liberia to open embassy in Jerusalem
Liberia announced it will open an official office in Jerusalem that will serve as a precursor to a full-fledged embassy in the future. This makes the West African nation the fifth country to open a mission in the Israeli capital after the U.S, Guatemala, Kosovo, and Honduras.
A heart-stopping Talmud lesson
A 70-year-old Israeli lost consciousness while studying Talmud in Kfar Chabad. Luckily Yitzchak, a United Hatzalah volunteer EMT, was in the same synagogue. He started CPR and called for backup. More paramedics arrived, successfully resuscitated the patient, and took him to hospital.

Thousands of North Americans making Aliyah

Last summer, a new Ukrainian immigrant to Israel went back to visit Ukraine and was tempted to return as it was bursting with life, while Israel had many restrictions. Several months later, Ukraine was at war and her children needed to be rescued. That’s when Chabad stepped in.
Suriname to open Embassy in Jerusalem
The South American republic of Suriname will open an embassy in Israel’s capital. In return, Israel has offered to send humanitarian workers to northern Suriname, to help with aid efforts after severe flooding left many residents homeless. Suriname is eight times the size of Israel.
Ethiopian immigration resumes
181 Ethiopian immigrants landed at Ben Gurion Airport on Jun 1st as Israel resumed flights bringing new immigrants from Ethiopia to Israel. Another 160 were scheduled to arrive on Jun 2nd with a total of 3,000 expected by end November. Most are relatives of Ethiopians already in Israel.
Cleaner finds and returns NIS 1 million bank check
One of the cleaning staff of the Yitzhak Navon train station in Jerusalem found a wallet containing a bank check for one million shekels. After trying to contact the owner, Israel Railways’ lost items department phoned the bank, who came after Shabbat to collect the check.
