Return to Jerusalem
The Conference of Presidents returned to Jerusalem, featuring global VIPs including from the UAE, Bahrain, and Morocco. The Shaon Horef (Winter Noise) street festival is back. There are many tourists on Jerusalem’s Streets, and we look forward to Purim festivities and the Jerusalem Marathon.
Making a splash
In a historic first, the Israeli national men's water polo team qualified for the European Championship to be held in Split, Croatia in the summer. They defeated Turkey 9:7 in the qualifying tournament at Wingate Institute in Netanya. The women’s team have qualified several times in the past.
Promoting diverse culture in Jerusalem
The Jerusalem International Fellows’ 10-week residency program brings leading international visual & performing artists, choreographers, architects, and urban planners, to work with local independent artists, ensembles, and cultural institutions in East and West Jerusalem.
The Israel Museum
There is so much to see currently at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. In addition to those reported previously, you can visit exhibits on Divine food, Abstract art, Market Day in Europe, works by Dani Karavan, Painted eggs by Hilla Havkin, Islamic art, Gold & gemstones, and works by Jasper Johns.
A mature young spirit
Whisky magazine has just named Israeli whisky distillery Milk & Honey (see previously) as Brand Innovator of the year (Rest of the World) in its Icons of Whisky 2022 awards. Last year, Milk & Honey won the magazine’s Craft Producer of the Year award.
Israel Opera
The 2022 Season at the Israeli Opera includes Pagliacci (Feb-Mar), Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro (Mar-Apr), Handel’s Alcina (May), and Verdi’s Aida (Jun-July) and La Traviata (July/Aug).
Very Mature
Israeli industrial designers Adi Azar and Yotam Shifroni have created quirky, but useful, upcycled and repurposed household objects. The collection, including light fixtures, musical instruments, toys, furniture and accessories, can be seen at the “Very Mature” exhibit at Holon’s Hava Gallery, Feb 19 to May 31.
The world’s best healing spot
The Dead Sea has taken the top spot on the top ten list of the prestigious tourist "Travel and Leisure" magazine as the most recommended "healing" destination. It wrote that the Dead Sea’s black mud can treat psoriasis, cure asthma, joint inflammation, osteoporosis, and more.
Netflix supports budding Israeli film makers
Netflix is supporting a new program at the Jerusalem Sam Spiegel Film School. Series Lab will help up-and-coming creators in the field of scripted television. Netflix’s producer and screenwriter Jill Condon will lead workshops on script development and mentor participants.
The history of Israeli fashion
A recorded lecture, available through ESRA, by fashion manager and historian Liraz Cohen Mordechai available on Sun 27th Feb after advance registration. Liraz founded “Fashionating by Liri”, a social enterprise that tells the story of Israel while promoting Israeli fashion designers and brands.
